For me the question is not whether selectors have the gall to make the call, but whether Munaf is as good as he is made out to be, to be for a "baptism by fire" treatment, because if he is not then its going to tarnish his career for good. The only real baptism by fire that has worked in Indian cricket to perfection is that of Sachin. But then he was a child prodigy so to speak and there were no two opinions about it. Munaf on the other hand cannot boast of any such luxury as there have been questions about his action and all sorts of questions about his performance after his first season with Mumbai. With Mumbai he has a better opportunity at showing his wares but he hasn't really set the Thames on fire as yet. Maybe he will do it, and then and then only can a decision be made about his real worth.

though if you are hinting at someone being inducted into the team, without having played the ranji trophy, then yes...sachin is the only one...in the Indiancontext.

ya...one would think it is time for munaf to get to turn up for team india..and one would think if his time does not come in next 12-18 months...his time would have past...its increasingly clear that fast bowlers dont get to make debuts in this country at 25-26...selectors should not be headstrong about it becasue there are always late bloomers( kasporwqicz and bichel being prime examples) but thts not the point of discussion here...one has heard talk about his lack of pace but more owrrying has been sandeep patil ( india A coach) saying he does not have the fire for tht level and he just played 1 match in a month long tour because of apprent physcial discomfiture but according to patil its all in the mind...ya i remember him dismissing Astle..looked good...not much movement...but didnt need to..was sheer pace and astle was late wit his shots... but patils report would have delayed his debut which i think is not far away....his chance should come against the aussies..a real chance to show his virtues as a bowler against the best in the world..on the other hand a drubbing by hayden n Co would probably dent his confidence for good.....talk about baptism by fire....one guy i am more interested in ( and praying for ) is zaheer khan...no matter of the brickbats he has been recieving for the last 12 odd months he still looks the best in india when on song and makes a huge diffrence to the team's morale when firing on all cylinders...still has good 3-4 yrs good cricket left in him..just a question of remaining focussed on his fitness and cricket...ajit agarkar is a spent force and we should now concentarte on not concentrating on him..its been a sheer waste of talent but surely we cannot keep pinning our hopes on a pesudo allrounder who performs once in 3 matches.....I have not given up on Nehra yet...but really needs to prove his worth all over again as his performance has been zilch since the world cup.....not too worried about sehwag..such people are jes an innnings or actually an over awy from good form....kaif n yuvraj need to get consistent but to be fair its not easy to be consistent at no 6 and 7...but kaif must be rueing not being able to captialise his chances he got higher up this time round....but stil look out best bet for the current decade when comapred wit mongia rohan and badani( classy but too flashy..badani tht is) among those who mite be on thresold of selection....hmmm....ss paul should be itneresting...on deadpan wickets keeps taking fivers...a la balaji..though havnt seen him bowl so reserve my comment...same for ms dhoni the keeper...lot of raves for his performance for india A....should keep patel on his toes whose keeping seems to be inversely proportiante to his batting abilties as of now... venugopal rao also is an unsung hero...both bombay openrs r suprmely talented ( jaffer n vinayak mane) but would need sumthin extraordinay against the aussies....salvi looks good but all tht comparision to mcgrath has jes put unnecessary pressure on his performance... has age on his side..another on to look out for his amit bhandari..makes most of limited oppurtunities..like his attitude.... among the aussies apart fromt he usual suspects i am betting on mathew clarke and kasporwicz to be a pain in india's plans

Alas!! Munaf Patel is also a spent item now. He has a shoulder injury...and that is the End. India is full of medium pacers. We want fast bowlers. Only one fast bowler emerged...but gone again.
Zaheer Khan.....where has the pace gone? Nehra's run up appears to be a great struggle to some how reach the popping crease. If some energy is left..then that to be passed on to the ball.
A faster medium pacer Pathan Saab...ok, as long as he does not fall prey to the glitteretties. See what has happened to Yuvraj Sing! You are young..you should be biting your lips and mutter.."I am going to kill you". Instead, you spend time with beautiful girls.
This casual attitude to life kills every youngster..be it cricketer, student, professional...
