Look at that 4 day game that India seniors are playing with India-A. The batting was horrible except Ganguly. I think this time around it will be real tough for the Indians to hang on to the Border Gavaskar trophy just like the last time.Whoever wins is going to pip the other one to the post. I have a sneaking suspicion though that the Aussie batting lineup will give up their slam bang game as Ponting and others have indicated clearly and that would result in both batting teams not giving away even an inch and not forcing the issue either which would result in a stalemate.

If highly elligible boys like Rupam are forbidden to look at beautiful girls then what will happen to our beautiful beauties? I think Dr. AKS has inspired Late Talat Mahamood to sing the following song : Ruper oii pradip jele ki hobe tomar, jodi keu na ase aar Moner oii eto madhu keno jomechhe, jodi keu na thake nebar Very old song, heard of it?

He lowers the window and asked what he wants. > The man says, " Indian Cricket Team is kidnapped and the ransom is 50 million dollars. If the ransom is not paid, the kidnappers have threatened to douse the Team with Petrol and set them on fire. We are taking up a collection, do you wish to contribute ?
>The man in the car asks, "On an average what are people donating ?" >The other man replies, "About 5 to 10 litres....!!"

The new contract systemm is in place...probably a lift from the Aussie system...which is all fine and good...but as always this compensation is not linked to performance...which again throws a question...what are the benchmarks for measuring performance? Even if the top seven were to miss out, or play badly, they would still be entitled to the full amount in their bracket...
getting back to cricket, the last test again showed that the Indian team has got into this habbit of starting a series against a strong team (the Pakistan series was an exception) in poor ways...and then for the rest of the series trying to get back into the series...I remember Gavaskar once having commented, that while on an overseas series, India should play the Third test first...because its only from the third test(which often isalso the last in the series) that the team picks up steam... the last time the Australians were in India, the homeside had lost the first test at Wankhade extremely extremely badly...they had an ordinary display in the first inning at Calcutta also...though Lakshman did score a half century to get India to concede only 274 odd runs deficit...and then that probably laid the foundation for the turnaround we saw...
So, do we continue with the same guys (notably Shawag, Yuvraj etc.) for the second test as well? In the hope that the fairytale would get written all over again this time as well? Or do we ask these people...boss...its time you changed your atitude towards the game...just think the way Yuvraj had displayed his traditional one- dayish arrogance in both the innings when he had the chance to play the innings of his life...when you are in poor form, you have to come to terms with the fact that you need to give yourself some time to stay at the crease and play yourself in...shunning your natural flair...test cricket really tests people...and you cannot get away with your shortcomings all that easy...there was absolutely no application from the younger lot...
look at Pathan...it is not just his talent...rather his attitude towards the game that has made him stick to the wicket and score runs...do not know what will become of Pathan in the future, but as of now he has shown that he has the willingness to apply his talent, fielding, batting bowling.
Ganguli must have made a dent in the confidence of Chopra...who after the good string in Australia, was staring at the chances of his being left out of the Indian side...just because Ganguli thought Yuvraj would be a better opener...and we complain of not having great openers after Shrikant and Sunny...and once we have openers with promise, we do not have the system to nurture their poten ial...be it Sihv Sundar Das or be it Akash Chopra...they are left out of the side despite good performances because the captain thinks his opinions matter more than the facts...
We have still probably not gotten ourselves out of the tendulkar- absence factor...though there are instances galore to prove that we have done well without him also...
