Silchar is just 396Kms away from
Guwahati the capital of Assam. The train
journey from Guwahati is a little
troublesome as you have to change trains
halfway at Lumding . But it will be a
memorable journey (in all ways) for those
who have never taken a train through a hilly
track . Just imagine it passes through 36
tunnels and as it passes through the
mountaineous Barail Hills it looks like a
reptile oozing through the valley . It takes
around 18 hours by train, from Guwahati
to Lumding it takes around 5 hours and
from Lumding to Silchar another 12-14
hours. Howover it is better to avoid the
train journey.
